On 24 December 2024 in the late afternoon New York time, the UN General Assembly adopted without a vote a resolution to continue the UN inquiry led by Justice Othman into the possible causes of the plane crash in which former UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld and fifteen others died in 1961.
The Resolution had been presented by Sweden and was finally co-sponsored by what appears to be 150 nations. The Resolution is here.
This is a record number. (The previous resolution in 2022 to continue the UN Inquiry was sponsored by Sweden with 141 co-sponsor nations, which was itself a record.)
But what is the same is that yet again the US and the UK did not co-sponsor the Resolution.
If you wish to follow the decision, please see the UNTV coverage of the Assembly from 02.25.37 to 02.30.34 (the list of additional co-sponsors following the initial presentation of the Resolution is given at 02.27).
This is at last some good news in the lead-up to 2025.
