JFKFacts is sponsoring online segments discussing the possible role of Israel in the JFK assassination. My personal judgment is that the allegation of Israeli involvement is unproven.
Perhaps James Angleton’s role should be further investigated. Angleton was made desk officer for Israel at CIA early on, and he became very close to the Israelis. Angleton staffed the Doolittle Commission for CIA in 1954, and his appointment as Counterintelligence chief came out of that commission. Doolittle was a member of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board (PFIAB) under Eisenhower and Kennedy, and headed its CIA panel. Bill Simpich found the document from June 1963 in which Doolittle was tasked by PFIAB to find out why CIA was not implementing JFK’s reforms. The issue was pending on November 22.
Doolittle was a substantial friend and safari partner of Texas School Book Depository building owner D. Harold Byrd. Byrd was a major defense contractor in the fields of aerial reconnaissance and intelligence.
Perhaps a place to be looking is Angleton, Doolittle and Byrd and their circle.
There is still fresh information to be found on Angleton. A little known 1980 Washington Post article reveals Angleton’s involvement in an intelligence fabrication scheme purporting to be obtaining secret Vatican intelligence in early 1945. The scheme was covered up, apparently with the help of a shovel! U.S. Blessed With OSS Spy In Vatican – The Washington Post
Angleton had also failed to uncover the Soviet double agent Kim Philby, who was one of Angleton’s closest friends.
Angleton’s career seems problematic, and his loyalty to the United States questionable. He handled the Oswald file from October 1959 on.
