Secret Soviet files reveal skepticism about US narrative on JFK assassination, uncover forgotten ‘peace bridge’ plan

Among the most striking details in the document is a hand-drawn map showing a proposed link between Alaska and Russia across the narrow Bering Sea.

Washington: In a development that could reignite Cold War-era intrigue, Russia has handed over a classified file on the assassination of American President John F. Kennedy (JFK) to the United States.

The over 350-page document, currently being translated by US experts, contains startling revelations, including a map detailing a proposed bridge connecting the US and the USSR, dubbed the “Kennedy-Khrushchev World Peace Bridge.” The file, reportedly compiled by the Soviet intelligence agency KGB, also provides deep insight into Moscow’s perspective on the 1963 assassination and could reshape historical understanding of one of the most scrutinized events of the 20th century.

Secret plan for a US–Russia bridge

Among the most striking details in the document is a hand-drawn map showing a proposed link between Alaska and Russia across the narrow Bering Sea.The map bears a handwritten note:

“Could and should be built between Alaska and Russia. At once.”

The proposal, titled “Kennedy-Khrushchev World Peace Bridge,” symbolised a vision for cooperation between the Cold War superpowers. Its resurfacing has now prompted some political circles to call for a modern-day Trump-Putin bridge-tunnel project to revive the spirit of peace in the 1960s.

KGB’s take on Kennedy assassination

The document, shared publicly by Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna, also delves into the Soviet reaction to Kennedy’s death. According to an analysis by Mathrubhumi, the report reveals that Nikita Khrushchev’s government initially feared global repercussions but soon grew skeptical of the official US conclusion that assassin Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.

The Soviet leadership viewed Kennedy as a statesman “with whom, unlike others, it was possible to negotiate,” suggesting that Moscow saw the assassination as a setback to emerging diplomatic possibilities.

The document further indicates that some Soviet officials believed American authorities were concealing the truth. The rapid chain of events—including Oswald’s murder by Jack Ruby—was cited as evidence of the “provocative nature” of the actions taken by Texas authorities.

“Believed to be authentic,” says US lawmaker

Sharing the report on X (formerly Twitter), Rep. Anna Paulina Luna wrote, “The following report (referring to) the JFK assassination was delivered to me by the Ambassador from Russia and is now made accessible to the American public at the link below.”

She added, “While experts are actively authenticating the legitimacy of these documents, at this time they are believed to be authentic.”

Luna, who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said the file is now under review by American intelligence experts.

‘Kremlin’s official findings,’ claims Russian media

Russian state outlet Sputnik described the document as “the Kremlin’s official findings on the JFK assassination.”

The assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, remains one of the most controversial moments in US history. Kennedy was fatally shot while riding in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza.

The Warren Commission (1964) concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald, a former Marine who had briefly defected to the Soviet Union, acted alone. However, alternative theories have long suggested possible involvement by the CIA, the Mafia, or even elements within the US government.
